Let's live forever! What is biohacking and how to live (almost) forever

Biohacking is a term that has gained a lot of popularity in recent years, especially in the health and wellness industry. If you haven’t heard about it yet, then you’re in for a treat and have come to the right place. In this article you’ll find everything you need on this topic. In addition, Shroomwell’s CEO and biohacker Silver Laus will also share his well-kept hacks and secrets of implementing mushrooms.

Biohacking refers to the practice of using science, technology, and self-experimentation to optimize your physical and mental performance in order to improve overall health and increase longevity. Doesn’t it sound good? The essence of biohacking is to know how to make the most of your biology by using data analysis, lifestyle changes and cutting-edge technologies to achieve desired results. The term “biohacking” covers a wide range of activities, from optimizing diet and exercise routines to using genetic engineering and nootropics for improving the body’s cognitive functions.

Biohackers often use a variety of tools and technologies to measure and monitor their health and performance. These tools include wearable devices such as fitness trackers and sleep monitors, as well as DNA sequencing and microbiome analysis technologies. The CEO of Shroomwell, Silver, for example, measures his various body indicators through the OURA ring, and he calls HRV (Heart Rate Variability) one of the important metrics. “This indicator is a direct signal of the body’s stress level, because our heart is not actually designed to beat in one rhythm, but there are millisecond differences in the beat rhythms, the more rhythmic, the more stressed the body is. HRV counts the difference and change in the heart rhythm and a higher number is generally better. Here’s a picture from the moment I started using it (my body’s so-called baseline is somewhere between 30-40). RHR (Resting Heart Rate) has also moved down. Otherwise, the baseline is about 55-59.”

PS! My dreams started to become more colorful from that moment on and I started to “remember” them again. There was nothing there for about 4-5 years.

Biohacker Silver Laus did an effect test with Reishi tincture using the OURA ring indicators

Resting Heart Rate (RHR) – Indicates the heart rate of a resting body. The lower the number (compared to the average of your body parameters), the calmer the body is. Silver’s average figure is somewhere between 48 – 53.

Heart Rate Variability (HRV) – shows how the body directly reacts to stress. Heart is not meant to beat in one rhythm (which is a sign of stress), but there are differences between the beats (calm body).
Whether it’s a late meal, exercise, work day, etc. The number is directly related to the average body figure, which in my case is usually between 30-40.

Body temperature – the body temperature at night is also an indicator of his health condition and also of the surrounding environment. Ideally, the temp is either 0 (unchanged) or a small minus. The body rests better and more deeply in this state.

Respiratory rate – breaths per minute. When the body is stressed, breathing speeds up (oxygen demand increases). Silver’s average is 14.5-14.7.

REISHI AND STRESS

Silver suggests trying Reishi for managing stress. “It is an adaptogen that helps the body to move to its center from the point of view of stress tolerance. This is then expressed directly during the day in the form of slowing down the production of cortisol and adrenaline (our busy daily life promotes the overproduction of these hormones). When consumed during the day, it means a more stable nervous system and the ability to cope with stress better. When consumed in the evening, it helps the body to calm down, resulting in significantly more stable and peaceful sleep. One effect results in more colorful and realistic dreams (because the body is engaged in resting, not with fighting stress).”

Biohacker’s Hack: Pair Reishi Tincture with Vitamin C. Vitamin C has been proven to act as a so-called enhancer. Those with severe sleep disorders (night awakenings, shallow sleep, morning fatigue) have found it particularly helpful. My own experience was actually measurable. The moment I started consuming our tincture (3-5 pipettes with approximately 1g of vitamin C approximately 1-2 hours before going to bed) the body’s stress indicators went down.

One of the most important aspects of biohacking is the emphasis on self-experimentation. Biohackers are not content to simply follow conventional wisdom or rely on expert advice. Instead, they take a hands-on approach to optimizing their health and performance by experimenting with different diets, supplements and lifestyle changes to see what works best for them.

SHIITAKE AKA GOOD DIGESTION AND A STRONG HEART

Silver Laus mentions Shiitake to be a part of his latest discovery: “Shiitake is one of the most exciting and versatile mushrooms to nourish the body. There are many reasons for this, but the main reason is the ability to support the work of the heart and blood vessels. Over time (aging, stress and poor lifestyle) our blood vessels weaken and stiffen. The walls of blood vessels tend to gather a so-called coating over time, which is then deposited there for good. This makes them stiff and the volume through which the blood has to push itself is reduced. Shiitake’s property and ability is to purify it. In other words, the blood flow becomes better, which means less resistance and the heart can then function more optimally. It also helps iron particles pair with oxygen particles (iron is an oxygen transport system) so that there is a better bloodstream circulation and the body functions optimally.” Silver also cites the story of a friend, Allan, whose heart did not beat faster than 140 beats per minute when playing tennis due to the use of Shiitake tinctures. His body was getting more oxygen.

“Shiitake is also known to weaken and block the inflammatory signal in the digestive tract, so the digestion is healthier and it can function better. Proper digestion is directly related to the immune system and mental health. There are also studies that show shiitake to protect and repair the person’s DNA from oxidative stress (aging and damage). It contains all 8 necessary amino acids, which are essential for the functioning of the digestive system. Shiitake reduces the hunger signal and is hypolipidemic (fat reducing). It has antimicrobial properties as well and it helps to keep our oral hygiene in order, again being directly related to the health of the digestive tract.”

Biohacker’s hack: Shiitake can be paired with vitamin C and B12. These 2 vitamins act as the iron cofactor (so that the body can assimilate iron). This results in more energy and healthier blood vessels. Let’s live forever!

As you can see, biohacking has become popular in part because of its potential to help people achieve their health and wellness goals. By taking a proactive approach to health, biohackers can improve their physical and mental performance, reduce the risk of disease and extend their lifespan.

LION’S MANE AKA BEING FOCUSED AND EXTENDING YOUR LIFE

To extend one’s life, Silver recommends using a highly concentrated Lion’s Mane, which alone has already been proven to be a very capable mushroom. Its dual extract, aka an extract based on a water and alcohol solution, breaks down cell membranes and brings out bioactive substances better. This mushroom contains substances that help build nerve endings and brain synapses (scientifically, these substances are hericenones and erinacines). In other words, this means that consuming Lion’s Mane stops the degeneration of the brain that inevitably occurs as we age (through DNA damage and other lifestyle and aging processes). In addition, it better supports our memory and faster thinking.”

Biohacker’s Hack: Pair lion’s mane (3 pipettes) with about 50mg of niacin (vitamin B3). It should be the so-called “flush” version. Niacin on its own is one of the most powerful anti-aging substances that expands the blood vessels, through which you can also boost your blood circulation (greater supply of oxygen and mobility of nutrients). The lion’s mane combo ensures that useful substances reach the brain better and then helps them pass through the brain-blood barrier faster (but safely). Let’s get smarter, better, faster, and overall better human beings!

In conclusion, biohacking is a rapidly growing field that has the potential to change our understanding of health and wellness. By combining cutting-edge science and technology with a willingness to experiment, biohackers are pushing the boundaries of optimizing human biology. Have fun experimenting, because this long article has a really good treat now in the end: biohacker-approved tincture combos. By buying Shroomwell’s biohacker combo, we recommend combining tinctures that we and our friends love:

  • Chaga and Reishi – Body resistance and good sleep with mushrooms.
  • Chaga and Lion’s Mane – Best Awakening and Stamina with Mushrooms.
